Are you using a heating mat at all? Do you wrap your tops in parafilm before they leaf out?

I definitely use parafilm, usually before putting the cutting into medium. Protects them from drying out

Heating mats are cool, but I'm not using them just yet, or lights. It's a matter of budgeting more than anything. I decided to buy the shelving, totes and medium first, then get accessories later.

Just a couple friendly suggestions and comments. Make sure to secure the shelves to the wall. You never know what could happen. You can also put one rack in front of the other, with no gap to save space. I suspect that tarp is gonna create mold if the moisture is high in that room. Is it protecting carpet?

Definitely going to be securing it. That video was taken while we were putting it up. We don't get earthquakes, not even a little bit, around here, but hurricanes can shake a building up.

Going to use the racks back to back in the middle of the floor, but it seems untenable against a wall.

The tarp will probably most definitely create issues, but my mom insisted. It's her building. And yeah, she doesn't want dirt getting on the floor -.-

That’s the guy who spilled the chili beans right?

I was more worried about your son climbing on one than being knocked down by a force of nature.

You should get that clear plastic contractors use for painting. I think there’s one that’s tacky and will stick to the floor and remove easily.

Uhh I didn't quite follow the chilli beans thing lol

Yeah, you make a good point with Ronin. The good news is, this isn't in my house. I live in a double wide, but we have 4 additional double wides for storage and various things. This is an entirely separate building, so it's hard for him to get in here unsupervised.

I'll definitely look into that plastic. Here's what we've got so far

Some of the wood on the bench might look familiar to you ;-)

I have some in a tote right now. No bottom heat because they are inside a warm room. Just looking for ideas and advice. Hoping for at least 80% success. Fingers crossed.

The downside to having them in a warm room with no bottom heat is you run a strong risk of getting leaves but no roots. This is an almost certain death sentence for cuttings. The heat should always be more on bottom than in the surrounding air.

Kevin is the name of a guy from the TV show The Office. He’s famous for spilling the chili beans.

Setup looks good.

Ah, never watched it much. I stopped watching TV around the age of 12, with small exceptions for certain series and/or movies, but mostly, nope. I'm the guy in the group who gets NONE of the pop-culture references xD

Thanks man. I still gotta rig it up with some T5 or T7 lights, still deciding

You're advancing fairly quick on your project and work. Congrats, it takes a lot of passion and dedication to get where you're at now.

Thanks man. I've always dreamed of having a setup like this, just maybe with a different kind of plant. Still can't do that, the powers that be wouldn't be very happy with me, but this seems like a great learning opportunity for when they inevitably give up the ghost. The goal is to sell a lot of the cuttings I grow over the winter to pay for this project, but even if I can't sell some of these, it'll be great to have them planted out on the land. I've got about 100 Oak St Unk trees rooting atm and four different properties I want to plant them on.

Saw this cool looking rooting method today. Hadn’t thought about doing it like that.

I made a makeshift greenhouse. Came in clutch with the fierce winds we had last week. It also keeps it a few degrees warmer during the night.

Might be a good idea for you if you ever need to conserve energy from those heat mats. I also cover my thermostat controlled totes with a blanket which makes a noticeable difference in off times.

How's he rooting, what's the method? Looks intriguing

Not a bad call. I've got a bunch of heat mats coming in that will be thermostat controlled. I'm also going to get a couple of space heaters for this room so I can turn off the heater (it's heating an entire double wide, when I'm only using one room). The greenhouse is next year's plan, I'm getting 3 that are 12' tall by 20' wide by 80' long.
