Anyone ever grown Mayhaw before?

My boss's favorite fruits are sour and I picked up a mayhaw tree a few months ago. Was just wondering if there's anything I should know. It seems to be growing much slower than my other trees despite being fertilized. I'm wondering if this is normal, or perhaps I'm not growing it under the correct conditions?
