I found this tree today. Can’t believe I missed it for so many years.

The best ones are ones you drive by for years without knowing they're there. I just found a honey fig less than a mile from my house that's been there for years.

What makes this caprifig special to you?

It’s closed eye, small, two toned. The ones I’ve seen are either purple, green, or bigger.

I think if we're going to do any real breeding experiments, it's going to take a better understanding of the traits of caprifigs. I hope you'll be a gateway for me to learn more about them. I WILL be breeding my own figs, just like Dr. O'Rourke, by the end of this decade.

I’m not interested in breeding figs per se, but I am interested in helping the process. Part of the reason I post Caprifigs is in hope it might spark excitement.

From what I’ve seen online, the persistent varieties seem to be a cross between female and male- that is, they kind of look edible.

I have a Farmersville caprifig I'm studying atm but it's still too young to tell. I for one am intrigued by your caprifig posts but I wish we could get more info like characteristics. Afterall half the DNA of a fig comes from its caprifig

I would like to find a tell-tale sign to identify a CF by leaf, growth pattern, or trunk. It would help in my hunts.

I’m starting to notice random mulberry type (oval) leafs mixed in with lobbed leafs on some female plants. Still haven’t sat down to note what varieties those are coming from.

Side note: I wish everyone could scan their leaf patterns, in an actual scanner, to get their true shape and size. Then have a tool where you could overlay your semi transparent leaf picture for comparison.

And then run it through an algorithm based on local conditions cuz some leaves are different based on light or humidity

So I'm going to make a thread soon on all these varieties you sent me. You got any photos of those? Was wondering if they might be in this thread, or others.
