Description
From Danny:
Col de Dame Noir produces high quality medium sized, dark brown to almost black colored delicious figs. Thin skin that does not damage easily. Typical Col de Dame elongated neck. Dark red pulp with the consistency of jam; thick and heavy, not watery at all. Easy to bite into. The white part (meat) can be quite thick. If left to hang on the tree the sugars and pulp will concentrate and you'll get that clear delineation of meat and pulp when it is cut open. This outline is another typical trait of CdD's and add's to the clean look of the fruit. Very complex and rich fig flavor with a medium sweetness and berry undertones that makes you appreciate a good Col de Dame. Small seed crunch and no cavity. Tight eye. 1 crop. No pollination needed. Great variety for potted culture. Very hardy tree that needs lots of sun and a longer season than most. Definitely one of the finest tasting figs in the world!
From The French Fig Farm:
This variety, often found in French nurseries, has a long neck on the fig and is said to resemble the "Collar of a Lady" or "Collier d'une Dame" when high collars and expensive jeweled necklaces were in fashion in French royalty.
This fig is dark brown to black on the outside and red on the inside. It produces one crop late in the season.
Delicious flavor and said to be the best tasting of the Col de Dames. It is a highly desirable fig.
Col de Dame Blanc and Col de Dame Noir are Monsieur Baud's favorite late season figs.
