Description
Anis Serjani:
Fik i Zi, Zemer Kuq (FZZK) translating to Black Fig with Red Heart as seen on the fruit pictures. This cultivar along with a few others were absolute standouts on my summer visit back home last year. I got to meet all my relatives and had the pleasure of trying some of the best figs in the world and was able to obtain a few cuttings. I came across this amazing fig while walking the streets of the historic district of Berat and it was growing along the fence line of a 17th century home that it’s currently protected by UNESCO and owned by a Local who’s name is Zabiti. Albanians don’t really give names to figs instead they describe them by characteristics. You may choose to call it Zabiti as a synonym. This cultivar produces an abundance of amazing black figs with a very pronounced vivid red Jelly like interior and a very complex flavor profile. The skin is slightly firm and it has a closed eye possibly making it a great commercial variety. In its native environment it produces a few early Brebas and starts ripening the heavy main crop figs in late July and continues to ripen figs until late October . This might be the only plant I will offer for sale this year the rest I will keep for myself for the time being. Fruit photos are from mother tree. Absolutely stunning variety for rare tree collectors.
