Description
This is a green skinned Caprifig that has a Parthenocarpic ( Persistent ) Profichi crop, meaning that it does not need to be inhabited by the Blastophaga Psenes (fig Wasp ) to mature on the tree. This makes it ideal for hand pollination, as it produces a great amount of pollen from the great many male flowers near the Ostiole . It is not yet known if it is Parthenocarpic on all 3 crops, and to breed Parthenocarpic (Common) figs it would need to be.
This Caprifig tree was originally from a private collection, but bought by a nursary in Switzerland, Lubera, and now sold by them as a female fig.
This tree seems to not have an overlapping Profichi to Mammoni crop, so that would not make it suitable for hosting a fig Wasp colony on its own.
Although most Mammoni crops on Parthenocarpic Caprifig trees have edible figs, it is not yet known if this tree does.
It has a 3 and 5 lobed leaf, but 5 is more dominant.
Although this is still marketed as a female fig, it is a Caprifig .
This has a Persistent Profichi crop, that pollen can be taken from for hand pollination, but until it is known if all 3 crops are Persistent , the tree cannot be regarded as a good pollinator to produce Common Fig seeds.
