Description
Blue Provence
History
The earliest reference is from 1869, with plants sourced from a nursery in Camden Park, New South Wales, Australia (Warrick Examiner and Time, 26 June 1869). It was also listed in Goodman's Fruit Catalogue (1911-1915) and Brunning's Catalogue (1916). It was also noted as growing at the Blackwood Orchard, Coromandel Valley, South Australia, Australia - for which we also have a log.
Decsription
Fruit: Large, squat pyriform shape with a blue or violet skin, prominent ribs, and an open eye. Flesh has a purple-blue tinge with red pulp, very soft and sweet
Ripening: Mid to late season (Brunning's: Late, Ikin/Rance: Mid)
Tree: Large, vigorous, with large leaves. Leaves are single and tri-lobed.
