Description

Calimyrna is the California name associated with the Smyrna-type fig Sari Lop and is historically important in commercial fig production. Unlike common figs, Calimyrna requires caprification: pollen carried from compatible caprifigs by the fig wasp is needed for the crop to develop normally.

This pollination requirement makes Calimyrna very different from common figs in wasp-free regions. Growers evaluating this variety should confirm whether fig wasps and suitable caprifigs are present before expecting reliable edible crops.
