He is currently cultivating it in his collection of Balearic fig trees Montserrat Pons i Boscana, rescued from a specimen of mother fig tree located in the term of Campos, in the ''sa Barrala'' farm owned by Margalida of ''ca Na Punta'', of very small figs.
The variety DE L'Agulla' seems to be native to Campos where it is known and cultivated, named after the shape of the very narrow top and with a very thin neck (Agulla: Needle in the Balearic Islands).
Features
The fig tree DE L'Agulla' is a uniferous variety of the Common Fig type. Medium development tree, medium to high vigor, with rounded crown and scattered branches. Its leaves are mostly 3 lobes and 1 lobe (25%). Its leaves with slightly marked serrated teeth present, obtuse petiolar angle. DE L'Agulla' has medium detachment of figs, and an average productive yield and average harvest period. The yellowish green conical apical bud.
The fruits DE L'Agulla' are figs of a size of length x width: 25 x 32 mm, with a pyriform shape with a peculiar very small and narrow neck, enough paired, of the same width and size as the peduncle forming a single body, which have very small fruits of about 8,920 grams on average, are the smallest of the whole group of ''Las Alicantinas''. They have a high percentage of fruit paired and less abnormal, of epidermis with a hard hard consistency, thick skin thickness, with a greenish yellow background color with a yellowish green color. Ostiolo of 2 to 3 mm with small whitish scales. Peduncle of 8 to 15 mm cylindrical greenish yellow. Absent cracks Prominent ribs. With a ºBrix (sugar grade) of 20 sweet taste a little bland, with pale red flesh color. With small or absent internal cavity, with small and few achenes. They are of a beginning of maturation on August 24 to September 28. Performance per average tree and average harvest period. Variety little known and cultivated.
It is used as dried figs in human food, and in fresh and dry for pigs and sheep. Medium abscission of the peduncle and little ease of peeling. They are very resistant to rain, transport and opening of the ostiolus and have a medium resistance to detachment.
