Description
Eric Durtschi, 07-31-2020:
This is not an official name. I am trying to find out if this is a known fig.
I love exploring and when I went to San Diego in the winter of 2018, I decided to hunt around Point Loma for some new figs since so many great ones had come from the area. I found hundreds and hundreds of trees but was only able to get cuttings from a few people that were willing to share and since it was winter, I really had no idea what they would be like. This is the first fig from any of those trees to ripen and it sure looks and tastes great.
This is very sweet and jammy. Super thick honey that coats the mouth. A nice pleasant berry flavor with a little mandarin orange flavor as well.
The owners didn’t know anything about its origins but it looks like a planted fig and not a seedling.
Note how this fig, thru time has been oval or flat in shape, red or even a light colored flesh. Images provided are from Eric Durtschi himself. Information has been submitted from posts online throughout the years.
