Description
With an incredibly great taste and wonderful growth traits, it is certainly a keeper here in our clime!
From Rewton:
Introduced from Herman2 (VS) who got it from a Greek grower in NJ, I think. The Herman2 version does not have long-fingered leaves and also produces green figs with red pulp although the fruit is less oblong. The Mavra, Melissi, etc. are completely different from what I understand.
Andreas posted that in Greece: “there are 3 kinds of vasilika sika.
1) vasilika mavra (black kind of fig)
2) vasilika aspra (white kind of fig)
3) vasilika melissi (honey like skin color)
sika is actually spelled with a y (syka) not an i but it sounds the same in greek and it is just the word for fig in greek.”
In reality, Vasilika Sika (BC) has been accepted to be either Stella or Dalmatie. Vasilika Sika (VS) however is still up for debait. Could this be Vasilika Aspra?
