Description
I harvested my first ripe fruit today from my two year-old in-ground Zidi. It has been a robust grower, putting on four foot of vertical growth and three feet of width this season. The skin was extremely tough, almost inedible. The fruit was very rich, I'd describe it as an intense, berry-flavored molasses. Rating a 9.5/10, after being docked for the rawhide skin.
Condit Monograph:
Zidi: Described and illustrated in color by Valdeyron and Crossa-Raynaud (1950) as a Tunisian variety producing a second crop only. Tree of large size. Leaves often very large. Figs large, violet-black; used fresh. Caprification necessary.
