About SuzyQ

I grew up in the deep south picking figs all summer while mom made fig preserves. Other kids had peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches; I had peanut butter and fig preserve sandwiches. Even so, I still love figs! When we moved into our retirement home nine years ago I planted a fig that was labeled "Brown Turkey" which turned out to be a very sweet Adriatic berry variety that's a heavy producer. I was told by Dennis Johnson (Snagulpus on some forums) that it looks like an LSU Strawberry, and I LOVE this fig! Since then, I've found room for two Violette de Bordeaux trees purchased from Dennis, and have an I-258 cutting in the ground. I'm hoping to actually taste this fig later this summer! I've also acquired a Marseille White but have no fruit this year. I am constantly on the lookout for abandoned homestead figs in my area. I propagate my trees every year and share rooted figs with friends, strangers, and charities in the area. Everyone should have access to a fig tree!!!!
