Description

Figo Preto was found growing in Point Loma in CA by a Portuguese lady, where it has been growing for about 50 years, discovered in 2008. But it is not a Portuguese fig. Some say it is the same as Violeta. There is no Figo Preto in Portugal. Figo Preto is dark, medium sized, delicious fig and is among the best tasting figs. Widely reported as very similar to Black +madeira"> Black Madeira, but in many cases, ripens earlier.

Thought to be the same as Black Madeira but in my experience, ripens fruit earlier and is more productive. Deep yet balanced fruity flavor, moderate sweetness and a syrupy texture. Often produces honey at the eye.

Not submitting a rating just yet as this was my first fig out of my 8 month old tree. However, the fig was very good. Sweet, berry taste with a chewy skin. Being my first fruit off my first year tree, I can't wait to taste figs when the tree matures. One thing I did already notice is the closed eye and the fact that it did not split on me. Well, we will see what the future holds for us with this variety.
