For me Preto is an earlier ripening Black Madeira. It is larger with a longer neck. It grows faster than BM and taste identical in my opinion. Preto likes to grow along ground unless trained. I have found that 50% or my rooted pretos like to sleep the first year with minimal growth but take off the following season with growth and fruit.
Out all our trees, Figo Preto by far is one of our best fig varieties we own. We highly recommend it. Large, mid season fig, semi-sweet and stronger berry tasting with a soft skin and mild seed crunch. Closed eye and no issues in the deep South. Loves the heat!
