Description

Notes for Fancy Rimada (Community Insights & Controversy):
Fancy Rimada has generated a lot of discussion and caution in the fig community. Multiple growers have questioned whether this is a distinct cultivar or simply a renamed Rimada-type fig (such as Martinenca Rimada or Col DE Dame Rimada). Several online posts have suggested that the name was created to generate hype and command higher prices rather than to represent a truly new discovery.
Community members have also shared concerns about the consistency of the plants being sold. In some cases, buyers noted that the air layers did not show the same variegation as the claimed mother tree. One grower reported that after politely asking about the discrepancy, the seller increased the price of the plant by $100, which only deepened skepticism. Others in the discussion dismissed Fancy Rimada as “sounding made up” and chose to stick with established striped varieties like Panaché or Martinenca Rimada.
For collectors, it is recommended to treat Fancy Rimada as an unverified marketing name until proven otherwise through genetic testing or wide-scale grower trials. Its striped appearance and reported flavor may still make it worth growing, but its authenticity and uniqueness remain controversial.
