Fruit Symmetry

Fruit Symmetry means the evenness of a fig's shape around its center in practical plant language.. . When describing Fruit Symmetry, use fruit at a known ripeness stage and note whether it is breba or main crop, since weather, pollination, and harvest timing can change the observation.

Fruiting Hormone

Fruiting hormone is an informal phrase growers may use when discussing plant growth regulators involved in flower and fruit development. In formal plant physiology, hormones such as auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins, ethylene, and abscisic acid influence many aspects of growth and ripening.

For figs, hormone language should be used carefully because fruit set and retention are also shaped by fig type, pollination, seed development, water status, temperature, and tree health. It is usually more useful to diagnose the practical cause of poor fruiting than to assume one hormone is responsible.

Fruiting Spur

Fruiting spur usually means a short shoot or branch section that bears flowers or fruit. The term is common in orchard crops trained to spur systems.

Figs do not behave exactly like apples or pears, but short fruiting shoots and productive nodes are still important when pruning. Growers should know whether their pruning preserves the wood needed for breba or encourages new growth for the main crop.

FS

FS commonly means “for sale” in fig trading and collecting discussions. It is a marketplace abbreviation rather than a botanical term.

When reading fig listings or forum posts, FS only describes the seller’s intent. It does not verify cultivar identity, plant health, legality of shipping, or whether the seller’s description is accurate.

FT

FT commonly means “for trade” in fig collecting communities. It is used when a grower is offering cuttings, plants, or other material in exchange for something else.

As with any trade abbreviation, FT does not confirm identity or quality. Clear labels, source history, photos, shipping rules, and honest communication matter more than the shorthand itself.

Full Sun is a term used for a site receiving many hours of direct sun.. . Full Sun is most useful when it is tied to the exact plant part, season, cultivar, and growing conditions being described.

Fungus Gnat

In horticulture, Fungus Gnat describes a small fly whose larvae live in moist organic media. Related glossary ideas include integrated pest management.. . Fungus Gnat is most useful when it is tied to the exact plant part, season, cultivar, and growing conditions being described.

Fungus Gnat Control

Fungus Gnat Control refers to practices used to reduce fungus gnat problems.. . Fungus Gnat Control is most useful when it is tied to the exact plant part, season, cultivar, and growing conditions being described.
